Purpose

To diagnose different parts of a building, and to find weak structural spots. 

Work Function

The sensor works like visible light, uses the lens to focus IR light onto a detector, thermopile absorbs IR radiation, heat turns into electricity,  and more heat means more IR energy. Lastly heat level displayed on LED monitor.
